Unfortunately this particular recording for Spanish television is badly degraded. It is a sad commentary on the ears of music lovers that it was an imposter, Carlos Montoya, that gained recognition internationally as the greatest exponent of flamenco concert guitar and not the actual virtuoso, Sabicas. He was a guitarist's guitarist. Even if a particular art form is not one's cup of tea, one cannot help sensing something of the phenomenal when witnessing its performance by a genuine master.

To be sure, you don't need perfect technique to play as well as your favorite artist; but without a good foundation, you will need to practice for many unnecessary years in order to achieve the same professional standard, if that artists's technique is wanting. The guitar is a romantic instrument, not something with which to contend. Lesson #1 is free. I will offer clips of more advanced lessons, including concert level compositions with fully scored music for a small fee. AVG Grisoft Antivirus, v9.0 FILE: AVG.zip (76,869 KB) DESCRIPTION: Freeware version of an excellent antiviral program, which has won industry awards for 100% protection. Unlike Norton and MacAfee, AVG does not slow down your system. This new version includes an excellent antispyware feature and real-time protection. I recommend you follow my installation guide, which is also included: it bypasses the default automatic daily scan, which, in my experience, is not necessary (and I often visit P2P sites). The program is free and updates itself automatically. Be careful downloading this program from some of the popular sites, some of which add spyware to the application. DVD Copy Kit FILE: DVD-Copy-Kit.zip (3,391 KB) DESCRIPTION: The kit extracts to three folders: RipIt4Me (v1.7.1.0), DVDShrink (v3.2.0.15), and DVD Decrypter (v3.5.4.0). Each folder has a "ReadmeGT.txt" file that contains info about the program. Included are extras that you might like to use, though they are not necessary. Once the three apps are installed, follow my easy, step-by-step instructions in the illustrated "Guide.pdf" file, in the RipIt4Me folder. When backing up a DVD, you will only need to run RipIt4Me as the other two programs will be triggered automatically. Note that RipIt4Me itself requires no installation. The process renders a stable, high quality copy of the video. The application is superior to the latest version of any DVD copy program that I have purchased or tried, and I have tried a good number of them. The program is configured to automatically use the Nero burn engine: you may be able to configure an alternative.

After unzipping the files, no installation is required (always a sign of superior engineering).

Giants like Adobe Photo Shop offer more features, but IrfanView is very handy for quick editing (resizing, cropping, adjusting brightness, etc.). But unlike Paint Shop Pro, IrfanView lets you save images with the .ico extension for creating your own icons. The thumbnail photo organizer is adjustable. With the plugin, the app also supports a huge number of audio and video formats; so you can play flash video and all the popular music files. Lock Hunter, v1.0 FILE: Lock Hunter.zip (2,381 KB) DESCRIPTION: Very handy program that lets you access it through Windows' shell menu and quickly determine what app is locking the file. You can then choose to unlock or delete the locked file. Windows Explorer likes to erroneously report media files as in use, prohibiting you from moving, renaming or deleting them. Microsoft Word Menu Enhancement FILE: MS-Word Settings.zip (126 KB) DESCRIPTION: A wealth of handy icon shortcuts for the upper menu bar in MS-Word. Many users are unaware of such features as word counting, inserting sound into a page, and enlarging or shrinking font size by 1 point (down to 1 point or up to page size or 999 point). Its IntelliGuard™ protects your computer against threats in real-time, like the Pro versions of other freeware (nice!). Automatic updates included. I prefer this app to Grisoft's intolerably sluggish AVG as it does not read so many false-positives, and it scans specific files and folders quickly and reliably. This program allows you to create advanced filtering rules (incoming and outgoing), including IPv6 support to customize network defenses. Real-time defense ensures full shielding from hackers, backdoor keyloggers, trojans and other malware. You will need to disable your Windows firewall to use this tool as you cannot run two firewalls simultaneously.

This tool is phenomenal.

Registrar Lite, v5.66 FILE: RegLite.zip (2,595 KB) DESCRIPTION: If you use the Windows registry, you will love this freeware alternative with an Explorer-like GUI. Unlike Regedit that painfully lets you to delete only one key at a time, this app allows you to search for items and find them in groups; so that you can delete large numbers with just one click of the mouse. Removing the several hundred keys left behind in the registry after removal of a program like Nero no longer takes hours: you can do it in less than a minute. This valuable tool also defrags the registry for optimal performance. The well-coded program is loaded with many other useful features.

SpyBot Search & Destroy, v1.6.2.46 FILE: SpyBot SD.zip (20,818 KB) DESCRIPTION: I have used a variety of anti-spyware programs: many run so painfully sloooowly, others want to delete files necessary to run legitimate applications. This freeware safely removes tracking spyware from parasitic marketing companies. The current version is Vista compatible and includes a file shredder as well as the "SDHelper" (TeaTimer) add-on that guards Windows' registry. Like all freeware made available at this site, the compressed file includes a "ReadmeGT.txt" file with extensive information about the program, along with straightforward instructions.

Spybot Seach & Destroy REMOVER FILE: SpyBot SD Remover.zip (2 KB) DESCRIPTION: A tiny program to help fully and safely remove Spybot SD by purging Windows' registry of remaining keys. AVG v8 includes good anti-spyware, so you may wish to uninstall Spybot. See my included guide for safely removing Spybot, a good program but a pain in the neck to completely uninstall. Registrar Lite (see above) is another option for clearing the registry of clutter.

Unlocker, v1.8.9 FILE: Unlocker.zip (491 KB) DESCRIPTION: Another tiny but very powerful tool for fixing the apparently never-to-be-resolved problem Windows has of releasing a closed file for removal. Folks who work with multimedia, especially video, know how frustrating it is have to open another video file just to let Windows know a closed file is no longer in use. This app even makes it possible to delete or move a file that is in use. No more annoying error messages when attempting to remove a file when a system process is still holding it hostage. Even when Task Manager fails, Cedric's Unlocker does the job. The app works well with Win XP and previous versions. Note: 32-bit only. For x64 systems, use Lock Hunter.

µTorrent, v2.0 Build 18620 FILE: uTorrent_v2.0.18620 (3,569 KB) DESCRIPTION: Freeware µTorrent is a small but efficient and feature-rich BitTorrent client for Windows that allows you to share files on the Internet. A set of readable guides is included for optimizing download and upload speed.
NOTE: You may convert downloaded video files with programs like ConvertXtoDVD and SUPER, so that you can watch them on your TV; but high quality Matroska (*.MKV) files require special algorithms for proper conversion. If you enjoy high resolution movies, I recommend the MKV Converter Studio that does a superb job of converting and burning a variety of formats onto DVD. Yes, I know this sounds like an advertisement, but the program is worth every penny of the $39.95. You can download this excellent converter from:

VundoFix, v7.0.6 (virtumonde infection) FILE: VundoFix.zip (168 KB) DESCRIPTION: Tool for removing Virtumonde virus that is not detected by antivirus programs. That's right, vendors of antiviral apps are refusing to provide a definition for virtumonde. Symptoms of virtumonde infection include random BSOD, corruption of executable files (stops program installation), popups for free virus scans, and slowdown of system performance. No installation required. Simple instructions are included.

Weird Metronome, v1.4 FILE: WeirdMet.zip (27 KB) DESCRIPTION: "Weird Metronome" is a program designed to accurately beat out time on a system running Windows, using the MIDI hardware present in most (all?) sound cards. The application may equally be described as a programmable drum machine, able to play measures of length up to 1000 beats, with totally customizable emphasis of beats and choice of numerous instrument voices. Flamenco guitarists can use the custom feature to create and save templates of any flamenco compás. The tiny program requires no installation--it will run from anywhere. WeirdMet accommodates also the needs of folks who play Eastern music, with measures like 11/16 or 21/32. WhoCrashed, v1.01 FILE: WhoCrashed.zip (977 KB) DESCRIPTION: If you don't possess debugging skills and would like to know what caused your computer to crash, this handy little tool lets you identify the culprit with one click of the mouse. My simple instructions are included, including straightforward steps to fix about half of all computer crash problems.

WinAudit, v2.27 FILE: WinAudit.zip (769 KB) DESCRIPTION: This excellent program lets you see everything on your computer: running programs with descriptors (more than Windows' msconfig shows), open ports, error logs (tells which programs failed), diagnostics, Internet connection speed, graphs of memory use, etc. This very useful app lets you e-mail selected info directly to tech support when such things as serial, version, and model numbers are required. No installation is required: run the executable file from your HDD, floppy or flash drive.

Windows Memory Diagnostic (2008) FILE: WMDx.zip (304 KB) DESCRIPTION: Something stable from Microsoft! If you are experiencing BSOD (blue screen of death) system crashes during memory intensive tasks, such as when scanning for virus on large HDDs or video editing, this tool may rule out the involvement of a possibly bad memory module. The app is easy to use and very fast. See the accompanying guide for the simple instructions. Caution using memory testing tools like "MemTest86" or "MemTest+" that always give a false positive (note that physically removing memory modules for about 30 minutes can resolve up 50% of RAM-related problems. Always power off and ground yourself before touching a memory stick).
